What is a Dietitian?
Dietitians are professionals who provide expert nutrition and
dietary advice that is evidence based, practical and sensible.
Dietitians have a wealth of knowledge and experience about health
and food. They are accredited by the Dietitians Association of
Australia and recognized by the Australian Government, Medicare,
Dept. of Veteran Affairs and most private health insurance agencies.
Rachel, our Accredited Practicing Dietitians (APD) is qualified to
treat nutrition related lifestyle restrictions such as diabetes,
gastrointestinal problems, high blood pressure, high cholesterol,
overweight, obesity, food allergies and sensitivities, heart disease
and other conditions.
What should you expect
from the first consult?
The purpose of your first visit is to relay all of the relevant
information with respect to social, medical and diet history. This
helps Rachel understand and correctly assess the issue and help you
with a suitable plan. Rachel’s philosophy is that there is never too
much information; a detailed picture helps to manage an issue
comprehensively rather than on diet alone. In one hour, you should
expect Rachel to help you create goals and objectives to achieve
these goals in a realistic and timely manner.
How many consults will you need?
This all depends on the issue you present with, the success of the
treatment and your willingness to making a difference to your
health. In most cases nutrition therapy is a gradual process and so
physical changes cannot be seen immediately, but can be mentally and
emotionally healing.
What will you need to do?
If you have a specific medical condition which you have be diagnosed
with, could you please bring test results with you or have them
faxed/emailed or posted as they can be very useful. If you have been
referred by a doctor please ask your GP to post or fax it or bring
the referral letter/information with you.
